Many people have reported poor health, sleep, ears ringing, headaches, fatigue, heart rhythm problems, and more after "smart" meters are deployed. These reports are increasingly common today, but people are not always making the connection to the meter. These meters have many mechanisms of harm and the exposure to the emissions is detrimental to the body.
These meters expose the body to harms for a number of reasons. Personal wireless devices, as well as cell towers and 5G small cells, are also known to cause harm. The problems improve or disappear when the exposure is eliminated, such as in the case of "smart" meters when traveling and staying somewhere without smart meters. Unfortunately, most doctors have not been educated on this subject; however, more are realizing the connection.
How bad is this? People have been injured, or worse, disabled by these injuries. Some people are now at risk for sudden or premature death if the meters are not removed. In some states, like Pennsylvania where everyone must have a "smart" meter, there has been no help for people who are injured. Sometimes it's so bad people end up unable to live in their house and move into tents or trailers if the condition progresses into radiation sickness.
The utilities say the meters are safe. Unfortunately, a 2021 federal court ruling showed the FCC failed to "provide a reasoned explanation that its guidelines adequately protect against the harmful effects of exposure to radiofrequency radiation unrelated to cancer." They also failed to respond to over 10,000 pages of research summaries showing many types of harm and did not answer the court's questions about extended exposures, harm to children and other vulnerable populations. The FCC has yet to comply with the court's order to provide evidence of safety.

These “smart” meters are mandated for everyone in Pennsylvania. People are now sick, tired, disabled and at risk of death, but have no recourse, even when their doctors have written letters notifying the utilities of these problems. On the Personal Experiences page of this website, there are several short stories from real people and their experiences with exposure to the “smart” meters. These are only but a few of the many stories that have been reported. Bodily harm, the subject of an info-graphic below from Massachusetts for Safe Technology, is not the only problem with the “smart” meters. Fires, data security, and dirty electricity leads to major appliance damage and other problems that can occur as well.
These are all reasons why utility meter choice laws are critical today.
